With September comes change and lots of it! Back to school brings a change in routine, the changing of the season brings change to clothing, cooking, and for me even skincare.
At my core I am truly a summer girl but I have to admit that the crisp sunny days of fall get me excited for all the wonderful scents, feelings and flavors that come with September and the fall season.
Previously for my monthly favorites I have tried to adhere to a one item per category kind of strategy. Honestly I have been finding this increasingly frustrating to stick to as sometimes I am loving a lot of things from one category in a given month and perhaps none from that category the next. So with that in mind I have given myself permission to just truly share the things I’ve been loving each month regardless of what they are :).
So now with all that psychological justification finished here is what I have been loving during the month of September:
From the Kitchen:
Zucchini Oatmeal Bread
This is a childhood memory thing for me. My mom grew a crazy amount of zucchini in our garden when I was a kid and as a result fall always meant lots and lots of zucchini bread. YUM! It's a tradition I'm to try and pass on to my children ;).
Here is a link to the recipe I used:
Easy No Bake Cheesecake
This is another childhood sweet treat. This is what I always requested for my birthday cake as a kid. So easy, so bad, but oh so good!
Again, here is the link to the recipe I used:
Eco-beauty by La Fresh Group: good night. night cream.
I got a sample of this La Fresh: good night. night cream in my August Ipsy Glam Bag and it has been a real game changer for me. A lot of creams tend to lead me to break out or cause my skin to react or become irritated. My skin has been super happy since I started using this product and I have been using it daily for over a month now.
There is all kinds of good stuff happening with this Good Night Night Cream, from super-hydrating hyaluronic acid and collagen-producing peptides to the fact that’s it’s cruelty free and made in California. I also think the name is super cute. I have actually gone ahead and ordered the full size of both the day and night creams and I am excited to implement them both into my skincare routine.
Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette
If you follow me on Instagram @theeverydayjournalista you may already know about my love of this palette. Perhaps love isn’t a strong enough word ;). In my long term search for my perfect matte neutral eye shadow I recently purchased this Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette.
I have to say the staff at Sephora really are AWESOME! The girl who helped me even announced that I had my dog with me over their little headsets when I asked if it was ok to bring him in store. So sweet, and extremely knowledgeable and helpful.
I have literally used this palette everyday since I purchased it. Walk of Shame is my absolute go to shade, the two browns I go back and forth between as they are both great crease colors, and the black and white are those go to lash line/shadow and highlight shades that go with every look. The only shade I haven’t used a ton is foxy. Of course the quality of the shadows themselves it amazing as well. Very pigmented and the formula is so smooth, not powdery. It’s compact and easy to travel with too. I really can't say enough about the Naked Basics shadows and highly recommend it as an everyday palette.
Wearing it Out:
I have been on the lookout for a pair of gray boots for a while now as my other ones are pretty much done. Initially I was looking for a tall gray boot to replace the ones I have but when I saw this funky gray ankle boot at Walmart I quickly changed my mind. Yes I said Walmart! They are called Selma and are from the G21 line. They are surprisingly comfortable and I have been wearing them A LOT!
Nail Polish: Maybelline New York Color Show in Wine and Forever
This deep red polish just screams fall to me. I have been wearing this on both my fingers and toes almost all month and it’s been a welcome change from all the bright and glittery colors I was wearing during the summer. Just as a side note if any of you know any tips or tricks to keep polish on longer for those with oily nail beds I would love to hear from you. I feel like I need to polish my nails everyday as my polish always starts to come off after only a day and it doesn't seem to matter what brand of polish I'm wearing :(.
Reading: Drums of Autumn by Diana Babaldon
This is book four of the Highlander Series and I’m telling you this story just continues to hold my attention page after page, book after book. There is literally never a dull moment and just when you think okay good, things are going to settle down for a bit, wham! The next twist or turn happens. I have just loved these books and would really like to watch the TV series at some point as well.
Candle: Nature’s Wick in pumpkin nutmeg, bonfire nights and vanilla dolce
Nature’s wick is a wooden wicked candle. If you have not burned one of these they are the coolest thing. They actually crackle as they burn! I got one of these a couple years ago as a gift and I have been hooked ever since. These natural candles are so pretty, they sound like a slow crackling fire, and the fragrance fills my entire house. It smells absolutely amazing and just like fall should, spicy and sweet!
I have to say the packaging is so cool that when I finished the last one I had I actually cleaned and washed out the glass jar, removed the sticker from the front and now have a really pretty glass jar with a wooden lid. I put some shells and beach glass in it that I collected at the beach. I love it!
You Tube: Kathleen Lights
Sadly I don't get much time to watch TV lately, but I do manage to squeeze in a YouTube video here and there. One of the great things about YouTube is that you don't need to commit to a big chunk of time to enjoy it. Sometimes I have 10 minutes before I have to go pick up the kids from school, so I will jump on YouTube and watch a video or two. It’s a few minutes to not have to think, to relax and to be entertained.
This month I have really enjoyed watching the YouTube channel Kathleen Lights. Kathleen is a twenty something beauty YouTuber who does great make-up tutorials and reviews. I have found that her recommendations are really good and honestly I just find her videos informative and easy to watch.
So, that is what I have been loving during the month of September. I would love to hear what your favorites have been this past month so please please please leave me a comment by clicking on the little speech bubble just under the post title.
Thanks so much for taking a few minutes to stop by :)
