If you want to open up your eyes and make them appear brighter and more awake a commonly used technique is to use a nude colored eye pencil on your lower waterline. This is something that I do almost daily, unless of course I'm lining my waterline with black. I often have a bit of redness in the corners of my bottom waterline and I think a nude liner goes a long way to neutralizing that redness and making me look more awake.
I’m a self proclaimed make-up freak and I’m always wondering if there is something out there that is just a little bit better. Sadly my budget often keeps this urge in check. I mentioned in my March Monthly Favorites post that sometimes when it comes to cosmetics you really do get what you pay for. That being said there are a lot of great products out there for a really great price.
As with most make-up products there are a number of brands that make a nude inner rim liner, and they are available at various price points.
My go-to for a number of years has been Rimmel's ScandalEyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal -Nude. I started using this following a recommendation from a beauty blogger and YouTuber, Tanya Burr. I thought the price point was great so I decided to try it.
There is nothing particularly special about the packaging for this liner; it’s just an old school pencil that’s a nude color (sorry about this pic, mine has been well loved). However the product, in my opinion, makes up for its lackluster appearance. The peachy color is perfect for brightening, its creamy texture glides on easily, and of course you really can’t beat the price at around $7 CDN. My only complaint would be that, for me, it tends to wear off through out the day.
Recently, I picked up the Pixi Eye Bright Liner and was super excited to give it a try. It was love at first sight as the packaging is super cute and the pencil is self sharpening. When I tested it on my hand it went on smoothly and was a nice peachy nude, quite similar in color to the Rimmel pencil.
Unfortunately for me that’s were the love ended. I have been trying so hard to love this product, I want to love this product, but each time I have tried to use it I get the same unfortunate result. I have a really difficult time getting the product onto my waterline and have to apply it several times in order to see any noticeable coverage. It’s as though the formula is almost waxy, and as with the Rimmel liner it wore off within several hours of application.
Now don’t get me wrong I have successfully used the Pixi liner for spot cover up and to lighten the inner corner of my eye, or even touch up around my lip line, but when I line my inner rim I use my tried and true Rimmel pencil.
So I guess the saying is true that the grass is not always greener on the other side. I would love to hear what your favorite nude inner rim liner is in the comments below.
